North Caineville Mesa
Mancos shale makes up the dark, lower ridges, giving way to Ferron sandstone cliffs. The shale is very soft, making for some nice boot skiing on the way down to make up for having to kick steps on the ascent.
Black Ridge Landscape
Mancos shale stretches as far as the eye can see.
Black Ridge Trail
Once on top, the ridges are easy walking and show up as light colored. This isn't a black & white shot, but the color of the shale.
